Shadows (Rephaim)

Shadows - Paula Weston 3.5I feel so cheated. This book is around 400 pages long(supposedly) but it's so short. And so fast. Before I have the time to register anything, I'm already turning the last page.Seriously. I'm very pissed.[b:Shadows|3227063|The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1)|Brent Weeks|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327881551s/3227063.jpg|3261241] was dropped into my hands at just the right time. I have been reading a lot of realistic fiction lately and I got pretty sick of it; there's only so much parental abuse and high school gossip I can take. Another angel book.Another Rafael. Another girl with lost memories. Only one of them is worth it.Will I never get enough of it? Apparently not. Because I still want some angels. I do, I do. I want more. I have been away for far too long and my hunger is not satiated still. Not to say this book wasn't good; I just had a major problem.I used to consider myself pretty liberal with authors taking on myths and what-not. But I guess I have a limit too. Not to say this book tarnishes anything, I just can't wrap my head around the fact that Michael is an angel, Nathaniel is an angel but Uriel, Rafael, Ga-shuttingupnow-a are not. Because in this book, they are Nephilim. Then what about them archangels? Is Michael the only one? I need some effing closure. But still, the angel lore is very interesting. [b:Shadows|3227063|The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1)|Brent Weeks|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327881551s/3227063.jpg|3261241] gets off with a good start and maintains it throughout the book. There's Gaby, the MC, Rafael, because apparently Raf's are the craze these days, Jason, which is not his real name but we don't the real one, so this is it for now, Nathaniel, they are always assholes, so are Uriel's who's also here, a Maggie we've got as well, who is pretty cool for a human even if she hugs a lot and an Esther- I always love them even when they are psychotic bitches. Gaby is not an unlikable character but I just couldn't seem to care two shits about her. Except when she's beheading monsters, which is not that oft, sadly. Many of her decisions just felt stupid to me. Can't get behind you, girl. They might be reasonable but I'd rather you do the opposite, even if it gets you beaten to a pulp, because you'll be beaten otherwise as well. The end result is the same so why not take the more interesting option, eh? Stopping the rant now.Paula Weston has an interesting writing style and it kept me hooked. The book has this not-quite-young-adult vibe to it that I just loved. And the story really picks up some ways into the book and needless to say, I'm very excited for [b:Haze|6326738|Haze|L.E. Modesitt Jr.|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1312063490s/6326738.jpg|6512326]. Very delectable, this book.Although, I'm just sad that only one pair of wings were showcased in the book and I don't even know yet if Rafa's got any. Then why on earth does this awesome-sauce cover has them?More reviews to be found on my blog.
