I never had much faith in this genre beyond [a:Melina Marchetta|47104|Melina Marchetta|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1277655889p2/47104.jpg] and [a:Courtney Summers|1487748|Courtney Summers|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1346824019p2/1487748.jpg] and [A. I don't count [b:If I stay|4374400|If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)|Gayle Forman|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347462970s/4374400.jpg|4422413] and [b:Where She Went|8492825|Where She Went (If I Stay, #2)|Gayle Forman|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347810457s/8492825.jpg|10706553] 'cause in the first book she had an out-of-body experience while she was in a coma. My sister once convince me to try [a:Jennifer Echols|203238|Jennifer Echols|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1290955468p2/203238.jpg]- I don't much care for her, is all I've got to say. So while dealing with grief and coping with life and stuff, I've always preferred my non-fantasy books to have some other element out of the ordinary- thieves, criminals, spies and such. But this book was that tiny, tiny key to a whole new wonderland of extraordinary stories of ordinary people overcoming the hurdles life has thrown so carelessly in their paths. And I believe this is my crappy explanation/apology to the fantasy genre for I'll be abandoning it temporarily. So sorry =(.Echo Emerson life went from up-is-up and down-is-down to down-is-up(when she is lucky) and up-is-down(when she is not) on a day she can't even remember. So now she has hideous scars and no idea how she got them. Noah( I love this name now purely because of him) Hutchins is another f'ed-up teenager who lost his parents in a fatal fire and is now fighting for the custody of his brothers. Oh, and he is the quintessential bad boy- sleeps with a new girl on a daily basis, got lots of tats, skips school, a stoner and what did i miss? Ah, he has no faith in the authorities( who does?). But I must say he has definitely revived my faith in bad boys. Heh heh.For a debut novelist, [a:Katie McGarry|4575371|Katie McGarry|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1305138891p2/4575371.jpg] has done an awesome job with this book. I might have had a few problems with how all the angst and problems were dealt with but overall it was a very nearly perfect read. The characters were lovable, no mean-girl bitchiness( I don't count Beth), even the romance wasn't overdone. I've never liked timid characters so it was quite a surprise to find out I enjoyed Echo's personality. Although, she wasn't exactly timid just had some authority issues. And did I mention how yumtastic Noah was?! There were other characters besides there two, of course.Mrs. Collins- the clinical therapist or something. This is the first book I've read in which the therapist does something that actually benefits the teenagers. In most books, the doctors are either ignorant, stupid or evil 'cause usually what's wrong with these kids isn't their brains but in fact they're special. So yay one more point to her! Then there were Beth, Lila, Isaiah, Rico and lots of adorable actors. And overall it's a novel everyone should at least give a try.
